Although lesser in volume, I have found myself liking Takahata's movies more than Miyazaki's. Lets see :
1) Grave of the Firflies : Ill go one better than Boutros and say that this is probably one of the best movies I have seen. Though utterly un-rewatchable(the second time i watched it through felt like punishing myself), the impact of your first watch-through stays with you for a long, long time.
2) Tonari no Totoro : First Ghibli movie i ever saw, and my go-to movie for cheering myself up.
3) My neighbour the Yamadas : A film I felt was almost tailor-made for me, as a person curious about Japanese culture and also a fan of Calvin and Hobbes. If you can deal with the lack of a cohesive plot, this is an awesome watch.
