Maybe not the greatest, but I thought I'd throw it up here since no one has mentioned it so far.
1954:
Seven Samurai
On the Waterfront
Rear Window

La strada
A star is born
20,000 leagues under the sea
the caine mutiny
Sabrina
Godzilla
dial m for murder
Seven Brides for seven brothers
Johnny Guitar
Them!

Great choice. The first three alone make it one of the best.

Oh that is a good year. But 1977 and Star Wars is just too epic. Seven Samurai is almost good enough to beat Star Wars, but lightsabers are just a bit cooler than swords. ;)

For me it's 20,000 leagues under the sea that sticks out from that list. I know the others are better films, but 20,000 will always hold a spot in my heart as one of the greatest adventure films of all time.

I was walking down along the street and I heard this voice saying, "Good evening, Mr. Dowd." Well, I turned around and here was this big six-foot rabbit leaning up against a lamp-post. Well, I thought nothing of that because when you've lived in a town as long as I've lived in this one, you get used to the fact that everybody knows your name.
