Well first off, let's not forget that the 360 hade a very powerfull gpu for it's time, based on Ati's(AMD these days) newest cards released in the same quarter, and performance wise matched the high-end PC gpu's.

And that's where the comparison becomes interesting. The Wii's gpu was actually the weakest Gpu Ati/AMD took into production at the time. Even the slowest intergrated gpu's were about 50% more powerfull. Also the high-end cards of 2006 were about 20 times as fast. If we look at the Wii-U, it's about 50% faster than AMD slowest intergrated Gpu's, and the top of the line cards of today are roughly 10 times more powerfull. So compared to gpu tech of the day, Wii-U has about doubled in power.

This might sound okay, however you can actually buy a AMD cpu with a comparable or sligthly more powerfull intergrated Gpu for about $75. That's a 2,6 ghz Quad-Core cpu AND a equal gpu for $75, at retail! Shell out a little more and you can actually get something almost twice as fast.

So has Wii-U made a big jump compared to the Wii? Definitely, but that's only because the Wii used the same 5 year old GPu of the Gamecube, with a 50% higher clock speed.
