All Sony has to do, to beat Microsoft, is release their console at roughly the same time, had they done that with the PS3, even if the first few years went as badly as they did, It would have still outsold it globally for it's entire lifetime.
People act like Sony have to do this and that to succeed, because the PS3 has only recently come close to pulling ahead of the 360 in sales, completely neglecting the fact that for an entire year, the Xbox 360 was the only option for gamers wanting next gen graphics.
Sony aren't making the same arch mistakes as the PS3 and i seriously doubt they will leave out features that PS3 users have been unanimously demanding for the entire lifetime of the PS3, so no speculations really needed.
If the WiiU doesn't pull it's finger out and get itself a crop of really great games within the year, it's going to find itself second or last place.
My predictions for next gen :
PS4 highest seller, 720 second highest seller, lagging behind because of lack of exclusives and no longer the definitive console for multi-platform games, WiiU last place because Nintendo failed to get the casuals they attracted with the Wii to make the jump to WiiU.
At this point i don't even think a crop of good games would be enough to see the WiiU pull ahead and lead the pack like the Wii did.
