Nintendo's compromises generally relate to regulation of publishers (which is why many dislike them) in order to protect consumers.

Sony's compromises generally relate to regulation of consumers, in order to protect publishers.

How do they regulate consumers, exactly?

If it's what I believe you're trying to say, then Microsoft is guilty of it on a whole different level.

- Shoddy DRM practises (Rootkit scandal)

- Lawsuits involving consumers not being able to modify their own property

- Muscling companies like Lik-Sang into bankruptcy

- Illegal advertising techniques (Grafitti)

- Misleading advertising techniques (PSP blog)

Their practises are more geared towards "regulate customers to protect the suppliers"
