Sometimes I just want to record what me and my friend talks about because we literally hit up on all the big points last night about All of the big 3. We touched up on rumors, prices, mistakes, etc. It was probably about an hour long conversation but I just want to point out that 4K is not impossible. Sony has already shown they push for T.V with consoels like PS2/DVD PS3/BR. Their is two problems with this though.
1. Will it make it cost more money
2. 4K T.V just like 3D will probably be too expensive for years to come for most people to buy
Now with that said of course they are not talking about 4K with games, but 4K with movies/Shows.
Now disregarding that, if adding 4K makes it cost more as we do NOT know what kind of technology is needed to make this happen, wouldnt that make it another $600 console? I mean what makes 4K t.v's expensive? The tehcnology inside, so wouldnt that be the same with PS4. We have also recently learned that Sony still has not learned from Price points with the Vita. The Vita is basically $300 for a handheld. Something you think they would have learned with the PS3 launch, is not to launch at a siginificently higher price than the competition. Of course at the time the 3DS was also $250 but I think that $250 was the plan the entire time due to they were probably making this near the same time as the 3DS was being made.
So with all that said, if PS4 ends up having 4K in it, expect it to be expensive. Now I do want to bring up MSFT for a moment because I think they are currently changing how consoles will be sold. It will be very likely that MSFT has a powerful system and then sale it like a cell phone plan. $99-199 up front and then pay through XBL monthly after that. The interest rate will surely put it up to $500-600 over a lifetime but people sure as hell does not like to pay that much money up front. I think this will be huuuuuge if MSFT does in deed do this as even I will opt out paying monthly for it anyways. Why do I bring this up you ask? Because what if, rememember I say what if because this is very doubtful, but what if sony does the same thing. powerful console and pay monthly. This will allow them to make a powerful console and keep it cheap in the eyes of customers. Of course it isnt cheap in reality but Paying $200 up front sure as hell does look better than paying $600 up front.
EDIT: After reading the OP: I also want to point out that naming the PS4 omni or orbis will be detrimental to the PS4. Why? Because this creates confusion and the lack of knowledge among a product. Something that the DS, 3DS has had issues with and now the WIi, WiiU. People think they are the same thing but they are not. People can identify sequeled numbers but when it comes to name changing then it becomes confusing. This is also something that XBOX has to watch out for. XBOX 8, XBOX 720, and XBOX Next will work but if they name it just XBOX like some rumors point out, get ready for confusion. Naming your product effectively is very important.
