Most "gamers" I see over here are far more concerned with doing what everyone else is doing and riding on whatever is trendy.

I've seen that here in Australia with all three 7th gen consoles; people buying Wiis, 360s and PS3s simply because it's the "cool" piece of kit and their mates all have one.
Definitely not a Microsoft exclusive phenomenon over here, if anything I think I've seen it more with the PS3 and Wii.
