Might be a tad' bit late to the party but some things you can check:
White-noize is in all cases some kind of interference of the sound signal (or distortion, but probably not)

* Check the signal cable for damage and/or loose-connector & be sure every plug is inserted fully
(the cable isn't touching the plug fully therefore causing a bad signal)
* Check so that the cable isn't running along something that is magnetic, could cause a bad signal (old monitors are extremely magnetic)

be sure everything is plugged in properly, when my speakers start 'humming' its 99% of the time some cable that got a tad-bit pulled out (can't even see it)
