I'm sorry, but do expected games really attract much attention? Answer: No. What next-gen is always about, and what gets people excited is all the new things we'll see. New IPs, new tech, new features etc. As far as new IPs go, Sony always has them in spades. That's the reason it will attract more attention. 

Do you honestly think that new IPs that no one has ever heard of will attract more attention than a new Mario Kart or Smash Bros.?  If so, explain to me why you think that this is true.

To be fair Sony are good* at hype in shows like E3... its delivering and the follow through they lack on.

I'm not disagreeing with this, but I'm pretty sure that they'll hype up the latest Uncharted (if one is coming out) more than their new stuff.  MS does this with Halo and Nintendo also does this with Mario.  The big three know where their bread is buttered.
