If Iwata resigns I think it would be the sign that times have changed so much that Nintendo literally cannot sustain a profitable, growing business without having software on smart devices. If that were to happen, Iwata probably should resign, as he made it his job to prove that Nintendo could be successful without releasing software on smart devices.

I do think a move like that would probably completely take me out of the Nintendo fan club, though. Playing a Mario game on my cell phone by swiping my index finger would be the death of Mario in my opinion. I'd rather just not play games at all than do that.

There is a lot that's off with this post.

First of all, many mobile platforms have the ability to plug a controller in them. We had a few threads on that, and just the other day my buddy showed me a shooter game on his asus tablet which he was playing with the dualshock. If they needed to go on smart devices, they'd find a way to make Mario work...

Nintendo franchises are popular because they are offered on Nintendo systems with extremely polished control systems in place to make the game play experience something that puts other game platforms to shame.  My point in my previous post was that that kind of relationship between a first-parties' hardware and software and all the benefits that go along with that would be instantly lost if Mario were to be put on smart devices.  The loss of any kind of competitive advantage aside, third-party controller accessories, none of which abide by any kind of uniformity, are not a suitable replacement for a dedicated device with games made specifically for it by the device's creator.
