My #33 is Chinatown, a dark and sinister film noir. Chinatown isn't easy to watch -- it's filled with repugnant and pitiable people -- but it's a triumph nonetheless. Part mystery and part psychological study, Chinatown features one of the greatest original screenplays of the 20th century. Many immortal lines were first uttered in Chinatown. Music by Jerry Goldsmith and direction by Roman Polanski are also highlights.
