The Miiverse and using the gamepad as a navigation device are the two things I find most enticing about the Wii U. Ironically enough, it's the Vita that made me interested in the latter, as browsing the PS Store on it is much more pleasant than on the PS3.
On the other hand, Nintendo struggling with their OS software has me wary about the Wii U and the gamepad doesn't really excite me in terms of gameplay.
As someone who neither likes or dislikes Nintendo, I look at the Wii U as a mixed bag. Sometimes I want it, sometimes I'm apathetic towards it.
