Start with the base Dualshock 3, then:

-Make it larger (similar weight)

-Make L1 and R1 real triggers

-Remove L2 and R2

-Remove Six Axis Motion stuff (it should only be in Move controller, not Dualshock)

-Add a back touch pad that simulates the tactile feel of in-game surfaces

-Make the D-Pad identical the one on the Vita, but slightly larger

That is about as good as it can get, I think. Unless there is some small improvements to be had for the controller's grip (shape/texture/etc.) or analog sticks (shape/texture/tightness/deadzone/etc.) that I am overlooking. But yeah, the basics are still the same (if it ain't broke DON'T fix it).
