As someone who has studied human ergonomic design, the absolute best design to date is Nintendo's new Wii U Pro Controller. If you put your hands together, at rest, with nothing in them, they form the shape of the Pro. The two analog sticks are exactly where your thumbs want to be, naturally, if your brain hasn't trained them to be somewhere else when playing video games. The XBox controller causes your right thumb to be extended further from rest while the DualShock requires both thumbs to be "activated" at all times just to reach the sticks. Any of the pads work fine if you're used to them, and I have no problem switching between them, but the WiiU is the "healthiest" design out there. It baffles me that it wasn't used sooner.

I could stand that as long as the sticks are the same on both sides.  The pro controller does make sense to me and I would love to try it out (won't be interested in WiiU until it's a least $250 and has some great games).  I don't know anyone with one either.
