Absolutely not.  I've played the game on both Wii and Wii U, and the difference is not all that noticeable.  If you think you would like the Wii U in general, go for it, but the upscaling shouldn't factor into your decision.

Thanks. The WiiU will come eventually, but then I will first finish my Wii games on the Wii.
