My #36 is Psycho, a groundbreaking movie that pushed new levels of violence and sexuality into Hollywood movies. It's still scary, shocking, and disturbing even after 50 years; no horror film has ever topped it. The movie starts off slowly -- even leisurely -- but that only makes the inevitable violence more startling. As in Rear Window, Hitchcock manages in his movie to lure the audience in and make it complicit in the crime. Perhaps the biggest highlight of Psycho is the musical score by Bernard Herrmann, which makes the infamous shower scene even more intense.
