U guys keep saying it would be giving up market share to microsoft but thats not the point. These next 3 years would be to squeeze out as much profit as possible would be able to market it better to stay relevent against wii u/nextbox. Releasing in 2016 would give it a 1-2 year lead on the following gen.

You obviously do not understand Microsofts intentions with Sonys marketshare. Sony has to look after it like a dog because if not Microsoft will try to take them out and then monopolize the industry while dumbing everything down to specific to multimedia hubs over games. Multimedia is the very reason Microsoft joined the gaming industry aside from Sonys visible stance as a threat to PC gaming in the late 90's.

Still pushing that ridiculous argument? The original Xbox and 360 were launched as gaming machines. Sony is the one that has been pushing their hardware as multimedia boxes.

I've grown an affinity towards MS this gen, but I want Sony to launch a new console this year. More competetition is good for everyone. Sony didn't realize they had competition in 2006 and they only got better to compete with MS.

Sony and Microsoft BOTH have multimedia machines, but the difference between Sony and Microsoft is that they dont force multimedia down your throat, its optional, secondary to the games. The term Xbox is no longer exclusive to consoles but is expanding to media devices Microsoft has a hand in.

You gotta understand multimedia services is actually profitable for MS since their hardware requires Live Gold to use those services. That encourages MS to push multimedia features and acquire more. For Sony, there clearly isn't much incentive to people using multimedia services so they aren't pushed as much.

It doesn't matter if the Xbox name is used outside of consoles or gaming. When they stop putting out quality games than your argument might have some validity. Sony didn't put out any noteworthy titles in 2012, but I'm not gonna say they aren't focused on games.

Free is more incentive than a paid service. Sony's marketplace is growing and the look is changing with it and so are the deals. Everything will come full circle with the PS4, but they are not pushing an end all be all multimedia service like Apple which Microsoft is desperate to emulate. Basically they are trying to kill both Apple and Sony with one stone (multimedia).

Free is great. But the 360's non-gaming offerings are superior. Live Gold makes money on non-gaming content... PSN not so much. Once again, that's why MS pushes their console for games AND multimedia.

You always bring up crap that isn't even relevant to our discussion.
Yeah the PSN market place is getting better. Thank MS for that. They wouldn't have to work as hard if they were just competing with NIntendo.

MS is pushing "an end all be all multimedia machine?" Now according to you games aren't a priority at all. Does that mean they're gonna close all their studios?

The only thing Sony has been killing is themselves. All the money Sony lost and much of the success Xbox gained is primarily due to bad decisions made by Sony.

Sony has been killing themselves and no one is denying that. They refuse to make competitive prices to competitors and revamp their designs completely to match customer satisfaction. They hold onto a level of quality that was at its peak in the 90's but since the rise of Apple times have changed. I have no loyalty to these companies even though I PREFER one to the other, Microsofts biggest achillies heel in the gaming industry is that they are primarily a mainstream entity which means less proper games as a primary seller but rather a few strong titles and a ton of commercial games and that comes second to their multimedia endeavors.
