Why Hasn't Nintendo Really Pushed Pokemon on Home Consoles?

The pokemon games are pretty bare bones. It is all about collecting and leveling up pokemon, but there isnt much of a story. I think nintendo realizes that this dynamic is a better fit for handheld or on the go gaming. Im sure they have probably done research on it in fact.
