Nintendo's approach to the Wii U was flawed. The touch screen is not something that appealed to the demographic from the original Wii, the thought process of re-releasing games already on other consoles on the Wii U to make the launch look large didn't appeal to existing PS3 or 360 owners nor the vast majority of existing Wii owners, they still really lack a trophy/achievement system, lack Blu-ray (not good for a new console shipping in late 2012), and the storage on the device is a joke at 8 or 32GB. Once the Next Xbox and PS releases the Wii U will be long forgotten as it won't have the technical capability to compete with them. Wii U will be lucky to see 10 million in sales by the end of 2013. The only thing that can save it would be an amazing and innovative games lineup for holiday 2013. And even that probably won't save it. Although I love Nintendo as a games company, I think their hardware days are coming to an end. Nintendo will probably join the ranks of Sega and become a 3rd party developer at some near future point (1-4 years). |
