3DS is selling well, Wii U not so much and that can affect it in the long run. Besides that, 3DS is cheaper and won't see a price cut soon while Wii U is more expensive and will probably get a price cut at years end to compete with Orbis/Durango.
So, buy a cheaper 3DS now and save US$ 175 (don't know the exact price in EU, but probably the U price is the double of 3DS too). With a price cut in next hollydays, you probably will have money for a Wii U too if you save some more during the year.
