Get a 3DS now, then a WiiU when it's got a bigger library. Right now it doesn't have many games worth the investment. 3DS does. Plus, it's cheaper. WiiU might be cheaper eventually too, should you decide to get one.
Also, if you get a 3DS, be sure to get the XL. So much better than the original.
