You spent those $300 for the hardware. It does not entitle you to it's content. Spending $300 on a Blu ray player does not entitle you to HD versions to the DVDs you already own. It entitles to to be able to play the DVDs you already own in slightly upscaled definition, and to spend $25 for their truly HD blu-ray counter parts.
I personally have no issue spending $40 on HD remasters of games and movies. I also have no issue spending $1 to upgrade my vc games with additional features.
