Fixed in game camera frees up memory much quicker than camera that isn't fixed that can be rotated anywhere. This makes a big difference on memory gimped consoles like PS3 and 360. If god of war 3 had a non fixed camera in the state its currently in, the texture pop in, missing limbs, dissapearing background elements would be quite funny to behold.
