My #39 is The Third Man. Many mistakenly think Orson Welles directed this work of art, but it was Carol Reed (Oliver!). The Third Man is one of the greatest film noir movies you'll ever see, with rich performances from Joseph Cotten and Welles, a memorable score -- composed entirely on zither! -- and arguably the best black and white cinematography ever.
