It is very suspicious that OPEC would fund any green movement. In the short term, they are relied on for most energy needs from the USA. In the long term, they would lose so much money, if the green movement actually succeeds and became a major part of mainstream politics. I hope it does we need to move away from oil and find some new energy sources, that is inevitable. Regardless of OPEC's motives scaring people from fracking is very good. Fracking has some nasty impacts on the environment and well being of people.

I think you greatly over-estimate the viable paths the "Green Movement" is pushing ...

Electrical cars are not (really) viable for the vast majority of people, the electrical infastructure isn't able to support most people moving over to electrical cars, and even if they did this electricity would have to be produced somewhere. Large scale wind and solar facilities are expensive, are limited where you can set them up, are environmentally distructive (and environmentalists prevent their production), and (with wind turbines) there are health issues; and micro solar and wind are several orders of magnitude more expensive and (when you include the environmental impacts from their production) do far more damage than conventional electricity.

In 25 years we will (probably) have the battery technology and the generation technology (Liquid salt thorium or fusion reactors) to move away from oil, natural gas and coal but we're stuck with them until then. If OPEC can limit the supply of oil by preventing countries like the United States from developing their resources they can keep the price high and take advantage of the opportunity while it still exists.

To put it another way ... Its November 1st and Walmart (OPEC) is doing everything in their power to limit the number of hours Target (USA) is open until the end of the year; certainly, Target will still have and be able to sell their inventory in the new year but will have missed out on the Christmas shopping season.
