Well 87 is an extremely high review score, and usually when it goes over 85 I would say its up to the player whether they decide its 90+ game or not.
Castlevania Lords of Shadows comes to mind, I enjoyed that game a lot more than other games that got higher review scores this gen; and I'm sure a lot of people did the same with games they preffered over Uncharted 2 or Halo Reach.
I'm sure the same will be the case with Ni No Kuni!
