I will say the only disappointment for me during the ND was that users had to buy the VC games again, it doesn't affect me as much because I only own a few VC game, but I can definitely see how this will anger a lot of people. Even if it's just $1 it should be free.
It would have been nice to see footage for Bayonetta 2 and 3D Mario, but I can wait for E3.

The games don't magically work on Wii U. It takes time and work to get to run properly and to integrate stuff like Miiverse. Yeah, it should be free but you can surely understand why its not. |
no, it shouldn't, we've already payed for our games. If they want to raise the price for future downloads they can do that, but we have already payed for our games. Can you imagine steam or Apple doing this

I can totally imagine Apple doing this. They charged $2 for a software update to enable 802.11n for certain Macs where the feature was not available at purchase time. They said it had to do with accounting requirements for retroactively adding major features to old products. For the same reason they "had to" charge money for major-version releases of iOS.
I don't know anything about accounting but this $1 fee is so small that it reminds me of that. Maybe Nintendo has to charge something proportional to the added value in order to make the books balance. Then again, Apple later figured out a way to make all iOS updates free (I think it had to do with not recognizing all the revenue upfront, but holding back a portion to be counted later).
