I do wonder sometimes why the Wii got hardly any 3rd party support. It was selling like crazy, cheap to develop on, and how many developers and studios have folded chasing the HD dream?
I can only assume 3rd parties were caught out with the Wiis success, they had pretty much got Sony as a nailed on winner, and then had to rush out mediocre games when Wii was gathering a huge userbase.
Some 3rd party games built specifically for the Wii were of a decent standard--Red Steel2 , Goldeneye, Epic Mickey, Sonic Colours,Monster Hunter, hell even the Conduit games had a decent engine built for the Wii.
I think the complete lack of effort from the begining paved the way, and spoilt it for the 3rd party games that actually had any effort put into them.
