There's a small userbase that they could take advantage of:

1. People who refuse to buy a 3DS (although that is a minority)
2. People who are willing to buy a newer version with extras/improved graphics (l0l)
3. People who are willing to buy for the sake that its Monster Hunter (yes there are people like that...)
4. Sony moneyhatting for at least one version of their own on the Vita.

At the end it all comes down to $$$$. Even if the userbase is small, they dont really have to make a big production out of it, they could simply port it with a few extras, slap a different name to it like I said earlier and it'll still sell better than the other games that are on the system (of course in Japan).

At the moment Monster Hunter is the #1 IP you can say in Japan (or at least from what I know - if anyone wants to correct me on this I am fine with that ;o) and Capcom is at a pretty good position to bank on that fact.

Hell I wouldnt be surprised if the fact that the 3DS got Monster Hunter was because Capcom wanted it to (and that Nintendo didnt had to money hat) but that is a theory of mine ;p.

Those are some good reasons, but I still don't see it doing much. PSV might get a HW jump from it but I don't think that would sustain it long enough that Capcom (or any other third party) would be looking to put out another big game on Vita.

I think Pokemon is the biggest IP in Japan. I think...
