The one recent rumor for PS4 said it would have an SSD (don't ask for link I can't keep them all straight anymore). What if Sony put in a small SSD and encouraged upgradeable memory. a 12gb SSD model vs. a 100gb more expensive model would be awesome if they had non proprietary SSDs. The loading times for SSDs are apparently incredibly low and everything goes faster. I would buy a 256gb SSD on amazon almost right away but it would be a nice option right off the bat for those that like the 12gb PS3 and 4gb xbox.

If you think Xbox 360 hard drives are expensive you don't want to see what decent sized SSDs cost. My PC's system drive is a 512gb SSD and I love it, but it cost me as much as 4 Terabyte drives. I don't think Sony wants to make the PS3 cost any more than it needs to. They'll probably have a 16gb built in SD with support for more SD and USB memory or just go with the cheap but effective standard laptop drive like they did last time.

I know but just to have the option there. They should have a small amount of flash or SSD for the OS and apps, then an HDD for everything else, but leave a slot to expand the storage via an SSD. The load time benefits would be outstanding and I would be willing to pay. Hopefully SSDs come down in price the next couple years too so if I run out of space (since 512gb is the largest there seems to be without completely breaking the bank) I could pick one up for not quite as much down the road.
