I agree with your post, but there's something I don't "understand"...Sega did the screen controller first, but if this rumor is true, why is Sony doing it now? Maybe a coincidence? I really don't know. My guess is that this controller will be a peripheral, to compete with the GamePad and the SmartGlass on the 360.

I think Sony would or could be doing it because it offers a lot of potential advancement to gaming. And if Sony does do it and does it better than Sega or Nintendo then great for gamers. Even if MS sticks in a free tablet with every 720 so that we are sure to use SmartGlass, then great for gamers. Whatever Sony has planned could only be good for gamers IMO, but I don't know what will happen with Vita connectivity if they go down this road. Will that mean that Vita is even less attractive since the PS4 is offering touch screen gaming out the box?

If Sony does this then the Vita connectivity with the PS3/PS4 is pretty much dead. That's one of the reasons why I think this will be a peripheral instead of the standard controller. It does the same thing as the Vita but without the need to buy a $250 (probably less by then) handheld device.
