I was under the exact same impression - that FPGA might be something that's inside in addition to traditional GPU. Now, is it for image proccessing or it got something to do with recent (and not so recent) implementations of ray tracing algorithms on FPGAs I can't even guess, but it would be interesting to see something like that inside next gen. As walsnufir also pointed out in other thread, developers bitched about CELL - now, how about programming on circuit level LOL


if they do use some form of FPGA I would guess that only a few first party titles would really take advantage of it. Most devs would just use some form of middleware to do basic tasks if at all. 

I don't actually think there will be a FPGA in ether tho, that seems a bit out there. I think a cluster of GCN Compute units (possibly with the texture units etc striped out) intended to be used as a big SIMD unit, (tho if they are going to be using 8 Jaguar CPU cores it makes a bit less sense as they are pretty decent at SIMD).
