India is better. More of the world (as well as more populace areas) has a 'warm' climate so its best to get the warm for free and only have to buy cold later on as you start to spread into lower populations in the colder areas.

My strategy doesn't usually need any heat advancements. You practically need cold though if you want to kill greenland.

I'm with you. After seeing the recommendations to use countries like India and experimenting quite a bit myself with about 20 different starting locations, I've settled on Russia as an ideal starting location.
The warm countries in the game are generally poor, and ridiculously easy to infect. The tough ones are Greenland and Iceland. By starting in Russia, you have a plague equipped to take them down from the start because it comes pre-built for the cold. You also have the proximity to infect them early, with a seaport that connects frequently to those two countries.

That makes sense. I kept starting in South Africa but found Greenland survived no matter how I spread the virus. Will try Russia next.
