Sony wasn't in the new IP business in the PS2/GC days really. It was resting on most of its IPs from the PS1 era. Some new IPs were R&C, J&D, Sly, but Nintendo also had its share of new IPs in the cube days (Pikmin, Animal Crossing, Fire Emblem (which was never realeased in the west before that iirc)).
