I don't agree.
I think Metroid could make it as a big title while staying the same. It has the locales, it has the graphics, it has the aliens, and it is pretty interesting. All they need to do is shove it down people's throats that they must buy the game.
Have you ever seen a big marketing push for a Metroid game? (Other than the originals.)
