Personally I think that ESRB ratings are inferior to the PEGI ratings. I mean all the ESRB has are black and white letters. I highly doubt parents even pay attention to that. Honestly, who ever reads those things on the back of the box that lists what's in there?
PEGI on the other hand, are extremely visual about informing the buyers, they actually have colored in numbers for the recommended age and it is very noticeable. Not to mention that the 18 rated uses the visual cue for danger, the color red. They have separate symbols for drug use, profanity, violence and the like.
It may just be that the ratings system doesn't have to be better enforced, but a new one needs to be made up from scratch. Compare.
Live in America btw, those symbols are really hard to see compared to the boxart. I was surprised when I 1st saw the PEGI system, because it just made a lot more sense.
