Yes I agree that planning of the merger must have started probably 5-6 years ago, however considering Bluetooth and wireless network communication became a consumer reality as early as 2001/2002, I'm surprised that Nintendo's restructuring plans didn't take shape around 1998/1999 when the technology and its potential use was still in development in various places around the world (including at Nintendo). I'm surprised that Nintendo didn't act earlier on what they must have seen comming. In fact Nintendo embrased it from a marketing perspective as early as april 1999 when they released the Transfer Pack for the Nintendo 64, even though it was not a wireless connection). Considering later attempts with GameCube and Game Boy Advance, they must have known early on what to expect from wireless connectitivity in the near future (say 2010-2013). My point is that they should have started planning for a merger between their divisions as early as 1998/99, and made it a reality 5-6 years later.
