He's actually pretty buddy-buddy with the NRA. He regularly throws pork their way, and they've generally endorsed him... though not in 2010 when they declined to endorse anyone in that race. (They clearly wanted to endorse him again, but got too much backlash when they floated the idea.)
The NRA has been pretty careful to make friends in both parties instead of becoming just another part of the Republican coalition and having a much diminished influence for it.
