I find it funny that many people know that  Wii Fit U or a Wii U sports game, will actually sell more systems, when clearly those are not games Nintendo fans  look foward to.

Do Nintendo-fans actually agree with this?

Is being top on sale that important?

Being top on sales is important for third party support, if the market is big enough the developers will have a hard time ignoring the elephant in the room and the investors will start to ask why there is no Wii U edition of the games. Sure some will argue that the sales are not there, that the console is not powerful enough and all that, but at least they will have to consider it, specially now that the engines are scallable and the porting is actually very cheap.

Publishers are arguing now that the amount of units sold is too small to justify a Wii U port of their already announced games, one year from now the new consoles that will be more powerful (and maybe more expensive to develop for) will have the exact same problem but few will remember it, and the only new console with a decent install base may get more games and or a few exclusives (even if temporary ones).

So it is important, is not the most important but it does matter.
