Without doubt Zelda:TP helped Wii initial sales. But the NSMB series is far, far, bigger than Zelda.

The gamepad, and specifically, the return to dual analog controls is the main problem seperating WiiU from the Wii crowd. People who bought Wii for Wii Sports/Wii Fit and Just Dance do not want to use that type of controller. Oh, sure they can still play Just Dance 4 on Wii U with a wiimote but why? It's on Wii.

Same goes for Wii Fit U. There's already two Wii Fit versions of Wii. So far Wii Fit U seems to offer little, if anything, over previous entries. Plus the whole fitness/game craze is pretty much fizzled out.

I don't think the problem is so much with the games, as it is with the entire system. Nintendo tried to land half-way between core and casual with WiiU but instead of netting both camps, they've ended up in no-man's-land.
