In a way, he never acknowledged Wii as a success but rather just an abberation from the norm. In his mind, Nintendo home console market should average along the lines of N64 and Gamecube. I do think he was right that Wii should've come out with an HD version two years ago. And there's no ill intent there, Wii was clearly not intented for such a long lifespan. Nintendo chose to cash in longer due to still strong sales and in away put themselves right back in the same under powered niche this generation.
Nintendo could have gone the HD upgrade route and still produced the Wii U. Pachter even predicted Wii U will sell out the first year which is now in retrospect more than kind words. Even though i love my Nintendo, I personally don't sense Pachter means any harm.
