That was back then when analyst believed that PS3 would end up an disaster for the firm. And it did? The PS3 was worth it?

I don't quite get the question marks. Seems a bit out place by the words that precede them.

Anyhow a lot of that PS3 being a disaster is rubbish. PS3 didn't put Sony or a large number of Japanese companies in financial difficulties.

It wasn't responsible for the sharp drop in sales of Sony TVs, DVDs, cameras .,etc

The recession was.

Had the PS3 been a total disaster but Sony still propered from it's range of other products it still wouldn't have killed Sony.

the recession also fucked with the Yen which helped Sony loose more money per Ps3 than they expected. Over all it was really bad timing to release the product. Sony didn't plan on the Yen plummeting. Had it stayed steady the loses would be nowhere near what they dealt with

Most of the time SCE was making heavy losses, PS3 was doing (relatively) good in Europe, and Euro was strong against Yen.

@Justinian: Actually Sonys problems started before even the PS2 released. It's strange that in financial situation they were in, they design a console like PS3 that's set out to lose money. The company hadn't go down (though, SCE actually did) if PS3 had lost even more money. But would've the PS3 been discontinued and Sony went 3rd party.
