I don't understand. GCN didn't really deliver for Nintendo, so why would the same philosophy work ten years later?

GCN was a really good, under-appreciated system, but it didn't speak to consumers. And a GCN2 wouldn't either. Nintendo needed to build on the legacy of Wii with Wii U, but make it built to last. It's still too early to tell, but I think they've done that. Wii U is an HD console with a much-improved online infrastructure, a new kind of controller, and a pretty revolutionary social network. I think it's on the right track. When I play it, I feel like I'm experiencing video games in a new way. And that's really exciting.

Also, can we PLEASE stop saying Nintendo is for kids. And families. And soccer moms. And people with bad taste. And "casual" gamers. Please. Nintendo is for people who love video games. Same as Sony and Microsoft.
