The only things I think could make this possible are:
1. Next-gen consoles delayed to 2014 - seems unlikely at this point.
2. Backwards compatibility / PS Classics service using Gaikai - nice, but may take away a good feature from potential PS4 exclusivity.
3. PS4 demos using Gaikai - my hoped for tactic, lets people stream next-gen game trials while not cannibalising PS4 sales. A post-PS4 announcement update to the PS3 hooking people on new PS4 exclusive IP while selling more PS3s (and more PS+ subscriptions)
This could generate the extra sales, but it's still a big gap to close.
