When you measure the cost of food per calorie junk food seems very affordable, but when you measure cost of food by weight or volume junk food is suprisingly expensive; and it is the volume/weight of a food that often tells you how much a person can realistically eat. The average person can (but shouldn't) eat a 200g bag of potato chips which represents about 1000 calories, while you would need about 10 average sized apples to get the same number of calories and few people could eat 10 average sized apples without consequences; and (depending on countless factors) you can probably get between 3 and 10 apples for a similar cost as that bag of potato chips.
Most of the heathiest meals I know of are also the cheapest, and they tend to involve a lot of beans or lentils, and most people eating a lot of junk food spend far more per meal than these meals cost.
