doesn't Sony give a rats ass about portable gaming?

They never did really. Their main focus is on home consoles.

The funny thing is that with Nintendo its the opposite. Their focus is on portables over home consoles. Why do you think they suddenly stopped supporting the Wii? 3DS took priority, and if they couldn't make that sell then the whole company would have been in trouble. That $80 price cut was a sign of how much they depend on that portable market. They've been raking in most of their profits from that division ever since the Gameboy days. They aren't going to let that go without a fight. THIS IS WHY SONY HAS NO CHANCE AGAINST THE 3DS. Sony just isn't as commited to it especially now with tablet/smartphone gaming being so dominant.

When Nintendo launches a new system, their focus always switches to that system to build an installed base and (hopefully) attract third party support. When the Wii launched, the home console took priority over the handheld. And why shouldn't it? There's more money to be made on home consoles, because the margins are higher on software sales, the tie ratios are higher than on handhelds and finally, there is additional money to be made from controllers and accessories. The Wii generated more profits for Nintendo than the DS.

It's also worth noting that the DS and PSP launched side by side, as did the Wii and PS3. Nintendo won on both accounts. Saying that Nintendo's main focus is on handhelds equals to trolling Sony hard (because they took a beating, even though Nintendo supposedly wasn't even trying). Please refrain from doing such things in the future.

Nintendo was easily able to shift focus from the DS to the Wii since it was selling so well. Games like Super Mario , Nintendogs and Brain Age single-handedly carried the system. Besides, the Wii wasn't exactly high-maintenance. Wii Sports carreid THAT system.

Well what I see with Sony is that they still haven't shifted their focus to the Vita....at all. Where is Sony's Nintendogs? Brain Age? Mario? Mario Kart? I don't see it. Look at LittleBigPlanet Karting. That should have been a Vita game.... Look at PS All-Stars, that should have been a PS3 exclusive. Game is horrible to play on Vita.
