This. Plus, the PS2 has shipped AT LEAST 157M-158M by now, so the DS has more like 4.5M-5.5M to go to catch it. That isn't going to happen. I'd imagine the DS will be discontinued ~156M-157M. By that time, the PS2 will have shipped ~160M or slightly more.

Funny because DS sold just as well in Q4 in USA as it did in 2011 (A little over 1 million). DS may be dead in Japan, and dying in Europe, but in USA and Canada DS is still doing decent. It's definatly possible that the DS outsells the PS2. I mean who of us thought that PS2 would be selling until the end of the 8th generation?
Also, if you go here: http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=152615&page=1#21 I have made estimates on sales and shipments of PS2 units based on Sony shipment reports (Where PS2 and PS3 numbers are merged) PS2 has shipped approximatly 157.3 million units at this point, and sold 156.72 million. DS is at 154.27 million, so if DS were to top PS2, it would only need to sell 3.03 million, and that's definatly possible.

According to NPD, we had the DS overtracked for Dec. by ~86K. We may have it overtracked in EU, as well. So, it is definitely going to have to start selling at a much better rate, especially since the PS2 is still selling, to reach over 160M (the number I expect the PS2 end up at before truly being discontinued).
