Consider that in the second holiday season for the XBox 360, after it had launched worldwide and there was plenty of supply, it only sold 2,407,892 from November 18th 2006 to December 30th of 2006; and (unlike the Wii U) it was available in all regions from the beginning of that time period.

I think that it is highly unlikely that, even with systems being readily available, the XBox 360 could have sold better than the Wii U did at launch.

Considering that in its second holiday season there were two new competing consoles on the market, it's not surprising that the 360 didn't do as well its second holiday season as it could have its first.
