A lot of people are REALLY jumping the gun here with WiiU sales, many of whom ironically are fans of the PS3, which is perhaps the greatest example of a console that started slow and then gained momentum

There's a big difference because PS3 had a lot of margin for improvment, WiiU has not (or much less). PS3 retailed at 599€ when Nintendo chose the cheapest price they could afford to keep WiiU attractive. It should not see any price cut soon whereas PS3 will most certainly have at least one more. It's current gen tech so they can't make the differnce on power and developers are already counting it out. WiiU hardly meets the conditions for a PS3-like destiny.
