And of course people are going to blame it on smarthphones, ignoring that the 3DS and Vita aren't exactly the strongest handheld offerings of all time...

if you we're a dad and your kid asked you for a gaming device and you had to choose between a 200$ handheld plus 50$ for every game or a 399$ IPHONE with free games and 1$ games plus it's a phone.

What would you choose?

i would choose an iphone without even thinking about it.

The handheld.

For one, the games are more like $40. For the $400 iPhone, one could buy a handheld console plus five games (at normal price). Which is pretty much the attach-ratio for a handheld anyway. One handheld game is quality-wise 100x any mobile game. Kids aren't dumb enough to not know this. A smartphone app is fun for 10 minutes, then it never get's looked at again.

Not even mentioning the fact that on top of the $400 iPhone comes a mobile subscription, making it even more expensive than it seems. Unless you wouldn't want to use the device's main purpose; calling people. An iPad costs more like $600, so that makes the handheld's advantage even bigger.

it's not fun for you but it is for a 7yo, just face the fact's smartphones are killing the vita and 3ds even the coo of Nintendo approves my comment.
